Jonathon Parker, MD, PhD
Jonathon (J.P.) grew up in Portland, Oregon and Southwest Washington. He completed his undergraduate training in Biology at Dartmouth College where he discovered a passion for combining medicine and research. Moving west, Jonathon completed his M.D. and Ph.D. training in the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Colorado. Under the mentorship of neurosurgeon, Dr. Allen Waziri, Jonathon’s research focused on developing techniques for real-time imaging of brain tumor cell invasion to discover clinically targetable pathways for personalized neuro-oncology.
At Stanford, Jonathon has focused his training and research on minimally invasive and neuromodulatory treatments for epilepsy and movement disorders in adults and children. He completed an fellowship in Epilepsy and Stereotactic Surgery with Dr. Gerald Grant and Dr. Casey Halpern. Guided by his surgical mentors, Jonathon has utilized state of the art approaches to improve epilepsy surgery by leveraging robotic SEEG, 3D printing, and whole brain tractography to guide safe surgical resections and laser ablation of epileptic foci.
Jonathon’s neuroscience research in the labs of Dr. Grant and Dr. Halpern has focused on translational neurophysiology. He developed a model system for evaluation of single pulse brain stimulation to direct placement of brain stimulation electrodes for network modulation. The goal of this effort is to direct placement of electrodes for the treatment of epilepsy and neuropsychiatric disorders. His research has been funded through the American Epilepsy Society and presented nationally. Jonathon is currently pursuing a career in academic functional neurosurgery.
Outside of the hospital, Jonathon enjoys spending time with his wife and pets, exploring the outdoors, visiting national parks, cooking, road-trips, fly-fishing, hiking, and learning to play the Banjo.
