Debebe Theodros, MD, PhD
Debebe was born in Los Angeles, California and has lived in Orlando, FL, Aurora, CO, and again in Orlando, FL (for a second stint). He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with an emphasis in Biochemistry and graduated Cum Laude. He then matriculated to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and began exploring research questions involving trigeminal neuralgia, as well as immunotherapy for brain cancer under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Lim. Debebe subsequently applied internally and was accepted into the Graduate Program in Immunology and Medical Scientist Training Program at Johns Hopkins and completed his thesis work under the co-mentorship of Dr. Drew Pardoll and Dr. Jelani Zarif. Debebe’s thesis work elucidated the role of a novel B7-Superfamily member protein in cancer and his research interests involve understanding how the immune system maintains tissue homeostasis, particularly in the central nervous system. His hobbies include spending time with family and friends, reading, conversations over coffee at cafes, traveling, enjoying nature and weightlifting/being active.
