Yi-Ren Chen, MD, MPH

Yi-Ren grew up in Taiwan and immigrated to the United States in ninth grade. After double majoring in history and biology at Stanford, he received his MD from Stanford and MPH from Johns Hopkins, with a focus on epidemiology and biostatistics. Utilizing large-scale nationwide databases, his research focuses on improving quality of care in spine and brain tumors, establishing standard of practice, and improving hospital-wide outcomes. In his spare time, Yi-Ren enjoys playing jazz, hiking, cooking, and pencil sketching.

Research interests:

Clinical outcomes research on spine and brain tumors utilizing both large-scale nationwide databases and single-center patient information, focusing on improving quality of care, establishing standard of practice, and improving hospital-wide outcomes. Projects include evaluation of risk factors for poor outcomes and readmissions postoperatively, evaluation of comparative benefits and cost effectiveness of surgery versus conservative treatment, and evaluation of complication rates and health related quality of life after neurosurgical procedures.
